August Eve

We get the name, “Lammas” from the medieval Christians. Lammas means, “loaf-mass,” giving us the tradition of baking loves of bread from the first grain harvest. These were often laid on the church altar as an offering. This represented the use of the first fruits of harvest.

Upon this years August eve,
as corn rigs march inline a’bounty,
Beneath the Moon’s unclouded light, I hold heather close; … warm…
The time flees with the breeze in careless heed
Between the late pastels and early navies,
by small persuasion her body agreed
To see me through the rigs and barley…
first harvests this eve we celebrate,
I’ll not forget this blissful night
Among the stars with mi’Lady Heather !
with this harvest plant late seed for arrival in November.
