One of the families in the group has a set of Twin Girls who are less than 18 months old and one of the little girls has just been diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, this is

Neuroblastoma is a Cancer that strikes 650 children a year and occurs before they are 2 years of age.  It is a Neuroendocrine Tumor and commonly begin in the adrenal glands but may also develop in the neck, chest, abdomen or pelvis of a child. The cause of Neuroblastoma is Unknown but is believed to be from accidental cell growth of the adrenal glands that occurs during development.

Debi from who says 8 is enough has taken the Philanthropic role of starting Auctions to raise Money for this little girls treatments, Family expenses etc.  This WEEKEND Debi will be putting up for Auction an Original Painting done by none other than my Husband!!

I know first hand what Cancer does to a Family and Know what struggles they Face emotionally, financially and physically and if the only way we can help is to raise money for them and help make this bad situation a bit easier for them then by all means I am going to do it!!

Here is some info to educate you on Neuroblastoma, who it targets and How

DIAGNOSIS or SIGNS of Neuroblastoma:
*   The First symptoms are often vague & may include Fatigue, Loss of Appetite & Fever
*   Later symptoms depend on the tumor location:

STAGES OF Neuroblastoma:

  • Stage 1: Localized tumor confined to the area of origin.
  • Stage 2A: Unilateral tumor with incomplete gross resection; identifiable ipsilateral and contralateral lymph node negative for tumor.
  • Stage 2B: Unilateral tumor with complete or incomplete gross resection; with ipsilateral lymph node positive for tumor; identifiable contralateral lymph node negative for tumor.
  • Stage 3: Tumor infiltrating across midline with or without regional lymph node involvement; or unilateral tumor with contralateral lymph node involvement; or midline tumor with bilateral lymph node involvement.
  • Stage 4: Dissemination of tumor to distant lymph nodes, bone marrow, bone, liver, or other organs except as defined by Stage 4S. ( this is Tuesday’s Stage)
  • Stage 4S: Age <1 year old with localized primary tumor as defined in Stage 1 or 2, with dissemination limited to liver, skin, or bone marrow (less than 10 percent of nucleated bone marrow cells are tumors).

Survivors of intermediate and high-risk treatment often experience hearing loss. Growth reduction, thyroid function disorders, learning difficulties, and greater risk of secondary cancers affect survivors of high-risk disease. An estimated two of three survivors of childhood cancer will ultimately develop at least one chronic and sometimes life-threatening health problem within 20 to 30 years after the cancer diagnosis.

Green Cleaning continued

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Recently I posted about Green cleaning with Clorox Green Works products.

Someone email me after reading that blog to thank me for the info but to let me know they clean their house with Vinegar and Water. I immediately thought “Eeew that’s gross” it must smell disgusting and be ineffective. Plus what about your wood will it pull the finish off??

So I did some digging and it turns out that Vinegar is good for some things.

This first idea listed we are going to try at the other house for the walkways because I always hate using those harsh weed killers and I am always up for being ecofriendly:

Idea #1:
Patio, Sidewalk and Driveway Cracks - Cleaning with Vinegar
Cleaning with vinegar will remove the dirt and dark organic material that often accumulates with time on patio stones and will restore their original colors and luster.

weed grass As well, it will control the grass and pesky weeds that tend to grow in the smallest of cracks or crevices in your outdoor patio, sidewalk or driveway.

Simply spray or pour distilled white vinegar onto the stones to clean, and into the cracks to kill unwanted weeds or grass and discourage further growth in the future.

The photo below, of a section of a backyard patio, shows how well a vinegar application cleaned the patio stones on the right compared to the stones on the left which were not treated.

patio-cleaning with vinegar

This will also discourage ants and other insects from building their nests there.

In these situations, the use of vinegar as a weed killer is very environmentally friendly.

Idea #2
Vinegar as a wallpaper remover
For a professional-looking job, old wallpaper and its adhesive backing must be completely removed before re-papering or painting.

Make up a solution of equal parts hot water and white vinegar, and apply it to a section of the wall with a sponge or a roller or even a spray bottle.
Be sure to completely soak the wall paper and allow it to sit for 20 minutes.

After that, apply more of the vinegar solution and use a wide scraper (putty knife) to peel off the old wallpaper.

Once all the paper has been removed, use more of the vinegar solution to remove any adhesive still remaining on the wall.

Idea #3
Drains – Cleaning with Vinegar
Try this home drain cleaner to clean, deodorize and unclog partially blocked drains in the kitchen or bathroom:

½ cup (125 ml) Baking Soda
½ cup (125 ml) Table Salt
½ cup (125 ml) White Vinegar

Mix the baking soda and salt in a small bowel and pour the powder into the drain.
Next pour in the vinegar. A frothy foam will be produced as the vinegar reacts with the baking soda to give off harmless carbon dioxide gas. After 2 or 3 hours flush the drain with water. I am all for this instead if it works instead of pouring DEADLY Chemicals into our water supply.

Idea #4
Coffee Maker - Cleaning with Vinegar
Over time, mineral deposits from the water you use, build up and clog your coffee maker.Cleaning coffee makers with vinegar once a month will dissolve these deposits and will also allow you to wipe clean accumulated coffee stains.

Coffeemaker For a regular 12 cup coffee maker:

  • Add 1 cup (250 ml) of warm water to the water reservoir followed by 2 cups (500 ml) of white vinegar, then run the coffee maker through a brewing cycle.
  • Discard the vinegar solution and clean thoroughly with water.
  • Run the coffee maker 2 more times through the brewing cycle with just plain water to rinse out all the vinegar.

By cleaning your coffee maker regularly, you will not only get rid of clogging mineral deposits, you will also eliminate coffee oils that can accumulate inside your coffee maker and become rancid. There is no doubt about it, a clean coffee maker will produce a better tasting coffee!

I can see myself using some of these ideas & how it would be a cheap option but I still don’t know about cleaning my house with it or washing my clothes in it…YUCK!
I would feel like everything smelled like an Easter Egg….LOL….I just can’t stand the smell.

I’ll stick to my Green Works products since they have a light clean scent and work well on all surfaces and are EcoFriendly.

Making National News

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Has been making headlines the last 24-48 hours. They have been discussing it on every station and talk show from The View to Entertainment Tonight!!

This effort is to Fight and Cure ALL Cancers.

I started the Megin S Fanz Memorial Fund with StandUp2Cancer.org
My Mission is to Raise Money & Awareness in Memory of my sister

I have been Blogging about it for over a month and asking for support but have been unsuccessful. I have raised only $80.00 and that was from my mom and Aaron & I donating.

I know things are tight and everyone is worried about the economy but honestly I feel most everyone can afford $1.00 can’t they?? I would rather have people donate ‘only $1.00′ than nothing at all. I dont think people realize how important this movement really is.

1 out of 3 people are diagnosed with cancer…….ALL CANCERS!! Some are curable and some are not but one thing is for sure ALL CANCERS are painful physically and emotionally and some are devastating as my Family well knows.

I am hoping now that people are seeing the T.V promotions and discussions they will be more apt to help me Raise Money and Bring Awareness in Memory of my Sister who died at age 29 from small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix.

PLEASE, Please HELP…..

Click here & Join to Donate $1.00 or more

I promise it will only take a few minutes and could potentially save a life, Maybe yours!!

Green Cleaning

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

About 2 weeks ago Aaron and I were shopping and I saw an end cap with a new Product or Products I should say called Green Works they are Cleaning supplies made by Clorox using Natural ingredients NO HARSH CHEMICALS and THEY DO NOT TEST ON ANIMALS!!!

I read all the bottles and smelled the Products. Which by the way for any of you who have Fragrance allergies because they are made from Plant and Mineral Based ingredients they barely have a scent at all. Aaron was actually suprised when I put one of each in the cart and said “when we get home I am throwing away ALL of the cleaning supplies in the closet!” His mouth dropped and said “you mean to tell me your giving up your scents?” I replied “Yes, I am”. And YES I DID, the very minute we unpacked all of our shopping bags I pulled the trash can over to the closet and tossed EVERY cleaning agent I had. That will be the last time I will EVER make that kind of deposit into a Landfill or subject my Family to any of those HARSH, DEADLY Agents again!!!

Traditional Cleaning agents use Chemicals believed to be causing:
Cancer, Infertility, Learning Disabilities, Respiratory Illness, Alzheimers, and much more

Here is what Green Works Products Offer by Providing Nautral Cleaners:

Use Renewable Resources: A natural resource qualifies as a renewable resource if it is replenished by natural processes at a rate that’s equal to the rate of consumption by humans. The plant and mineral-based ingredients in Green Works™ cleaners use materials that come from a resource that is renewable.

Make it Biodegradable: A biodegradable material is something that has the ability to safely and relatively quickly break down biological into the raw materials of nature and disappear into the environment. Much of the ingredients used in Green Works™ natural cleaners are biodegradable helping to minimize the impact on the environment.

Product Ingredients Sustainable: A sustainable product is something made from renewable resources, which means they can grow back quickly and can be harvested with minimal harm to the environment. Our goal with the entire line of Green Works™ natural cleaners is to use materials that are renewable.

Petrochemical Free: Petrochemicals are chemical products made from raw materials of petroleum. Green Works™ natural cleaners minimize the use of petrochemicals and are 99% petrochemical free.

NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS: Animals were not used to test the safety and efficacy of Green Works™ natural cleaning products. (this of course is my FAVORITE feature!!)

Currently on the Market and in my closet at home there is:

All-purpose Cleaner: Can be used from Kitchen to Bathroom, Counters, Appliances, Stainless steel, Sealed granite, Chrome, Cooktop hoods, Sinks and Toilets.
Ingredients: Lemon Oil, Coconut Based Cleaning Agent, Filtered water, Corn Based Ethenol, Contains No Phosphorous or Bleach

Glass & Surface Cleaner: Can be used on Glass Mirrors, Appliances, Stainless steel and Sealed granite. Ingredients: Same as the All-purpose cleaner with the addition of Soda Ash which is like a baking soda. This Product I can honestly say NEVER leaves streaks on my mirrors and I have a TON of Mirrors in our house & Lacquer including our entire bed unit in the Master Bedroom.

Bathroom Cleaner: Its names pretty much tells you its uses and its ingredients are the same as the All-Purpose cleaner.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner: Need I say more, with 3 bathrooms this really comes in handy and works very well!! Ingredients: Lemon Oil, Filtered Water, Coconut based cleaning agent, Xathan Gum (thickens), lactic acid (from Milk) & Citric acid (from Fruit). This product is essentially great for those of you who have experimenting toddlers and Dogs who like to partake of Bowl water from time to time because the chemicals you use now do not completely wash away they hang around in the ring etc….

Dilutable Cleaner: GREAT for Non-wood Floors, Counters, SInks, Stoves, Garbage Cans, Diaper Pails etc….Think of this as a new generation of Pnesol without the Harsh Smell or Chemicals. Ingredients: Same as the All Prupose Cleaner but has Potassium Citrate & Carbonate for Enhanced Cleaning!!

This Month they are coming out with a Natural DIsh Detergent which I am sooo Excited about. Now if they would just make Laundry detergent we would be set!!

Unfortunately these Products do not yet Disinfect but the Clorox Scientists are working on that and hope to have something developed in the next year or so. Until then our Home will have to stick with our trusty Clorox wipes to clean up after Chicken and such or when someone is sick….

Some people may think the Green Works Products are Pricey but really they cost less in the long run because they actually last longer since you use Less of the Product for the same jobs!

Now if I can just get them to provide refills in Biodegrable Cartons we would have the bottle recycling issue under control because we wouldnt have to toss the Plastic just refill it!!

Go forth and Create a Better, Healthier Environment for your Family,

Holy Hail!!

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

The East Coast got hit by some Crazy Storms over the weekend.  Fortunately the area where we live didnt get hit too bad ecept for the bad wind, rain and HAIL!!  Yes I said hail.  On two seperate occassions on Sunday we had Hail Storms !!

Here are some pictures from Sundays borage of storms…..

This is the back yard from some of the patio. You can see the Grape vine getting beat up and the water accumulation on the Patio.  The other Flowers, Vegetables and Herbs Planted out in the Yard took a bigger beating because they didnt have the Patio & Deck Area to sheild them like the Grape Vine did…..

The Hail looked like Alien Eggs!!

The Storms Finale and Ominous Sky….

It was definately the weirdest storm I have EVER seen on the East Coast!!

Tap Water Makes you sick!!

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

On Saturday ‘A’ an I went shopping for various items for his Art Studio, The House etc…..

We got some really great items one is an Antique 1950’s Armoire for the spare bedroom which is to be delivered this Friday AM.

Another really awesome item we purchased is the PŪR® 3 Stage Horizontal Faucet Mount-Stainless Steel

It is amazing what a difference it makes in the Taste of our Drinking Water, Ice Tea, lemonade, Cooking and Much more!!

This is truly the crispest tasting water I have ever had ! There is not a bottled water in the world that tastes better than the Water this Filtration system produces.

It was so easy to install, I think it took Aaron maybe 5 minutes. It has a built in Electronic Filter Life indicator to help keep the water we drink and cook with the freshest it can be. It has a switch on it so we can use regular tap water for dishes, washing hands etc than with the flip of the switch I can fill my cooking pots for Pastas, Vegetables and more….

The 3 stage system removes 99% of Chlorine, Heavy Metals, Agricultural Pollutants, Sediment (Rust), Industrial Pollutants, and Microbial Cysts…..

I never even knew this stuff existed in our Tap water, Did you??

It turns out that all of those things that are in our drinking water are responsible for us being sick & we didnt even know it!!

Tap Water causes the Following:

Cancer
Gastrointestinal Illness
Liver & kidney Problems
Nervous System Disorders
Cardiovascular & Reproduction Problems
Blood Disorders
Learning Disabilities
High Blood Pressure
Nausea, Cramps, Diarrhea and Headaches

The unit we purchased is about $45.00 to $50.00 and the filters are $30.00 but in the long run isnt it worth it to not get any of the illness your Regular Tap water causes??

I also found out that if you have a refrigerator that has a water system on the front you may believe that water is filtered but it is not. Unless there is a Filter connected that has to be changed every 100 Gallons you are just getting Colder Tap water from your Fridge and running the risk of getting Disease.

I never knew any of this til this past weekend and I wanted to be sure to spread the news……

Wii got a New Toy!!

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

On 7/24/2008 I went to my parents house to visit, water flowers, pick up mail the usual.

Aaron had been on a Business trip for the past 3 days and had been checking in with my parents and me, the normal Anderson Family & Work week.

Well, My mom collects transport sheets from when they take my dad to dialysis so we have them to put on the floor when our Parrot is out of the cage.  She had them stacked very high and taped, which I thought was odd….I picked them up and they were very heavy…..

With that my mom said there is a gift in there for you and your husband but you cannot open it until he gets home tonight…..’and dont peek’!!
Needless to say for a few hours I was pacing past this bundle and the second Aaron got in the door from his trip I said “mommy & Bert got us a gift and I couldnt open it til you got home, lets open it”

Aaron looked at me and smiled and said “hun, can I go to the restroom first I have been on the road for a few hours” I smirked and pouted and said “if you really have to”…..

When he was done stalling me we opened the gift to find a Beautiful card and a Wii Gaming System!!  Thats right my parents got us a Wii!!!

The card said it was a ‘thank you for all we do for them’  It was the biggest surprise!!

We had been wanting one ever since the craze to buy our Nephew one for Christmas and now Wii have one too!!!

We called my parents and said our amazing Thank you’s and appreciation for such a special gift,

Then my mom tells us that she picked up the Wii Fit too in case we wanted it……..Ah, Yeah!

We have logged in alot of hours on it so far and it hasnt even been a week yet…..

Thanks again Mommy & Bertie!!  We love you!

We were able to give the Painting to George Michael !!!

We are truly grateful to ALL the people who made that happen. Although we did not manage to meet him we were told by his Tour Manager that he checked with George, who doesn’t normally except gifts at shows, and George Michael said he would ‘accept it personally’.

We do hope that George Michael enjoys the painting or is able to use it for his
Goss-Michael Foundation
