Joy of Giving

Monday, January 5th, 2009

Just wanted to send special thanks to:

Virtua Hospital in Voorhees & Tiffany their Volunteer Services Coordinator

as well as

JFK Hospital Washington Township & Athea their Patient Services Supervisor

for allowing my Mom, my husband and I to come in to their Pediatric Units during the Holidays to pass out Beanie babies, Coloring Books and Crayons to the sick children spending time in the hospital over the Holidays.

It truly melted our hearts to see the children’s faces light up when they realized why we were in their rooms.  Even the children and babies in isolation were given toys from us but we were not allowed to visit with those children for good reason.

If you ever wonder what the Joy of Giving is like give it a try just once and you too will be addicted as my Family is…

Hospitals, Homeless Shelters, Soup Kitchens, Food Banks, Elder Organizations and Pet Shelters are ALWAYS in need of Volunteers even if just for a day.

Then again you could do something as simple as taking a meal/soup or milk/bread to a Sick Relative/Friend, send them a gift card to a Pharmacy or Supermarket/ $5-20 in a card or Volunteer to take their trash out once a week or sit with them for a few hours so the Primary Caretaker can run an errand or get some out of the house time for themselves.

Remember a few minutes or hours of your time will stay with someone a lifetime and may make a difference in both of your lives even if its with just a smile!

Our Family strives all year long to make a difference and continually Pay it Forward

Make 2009 the year your Family starts too!

Our Soldier: Michael Cowan

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

My friend Denise started a Team on BakingGals.com which recruits people to send care packages to Soldiers.  Aaron and I felt privileged to be part of something to help the men & women who secure our Freedoms everyday.

Fortunately, we are in a position to be able to help.
We did not bake instead we went out and bought items we thought he would enjoy and/or need, Such as:

5 pks Beef Jerky

3 cans Chips

2 pks Crackers (from my parents)

2 Crossword puzzle Books

4 Journal notebooks

4 Pens

2 Lip Balm

2 Packages of Gum

8 bxs Raisins

3 Beef Summer Sausages

Penlight

Gel Pad for his shoes

Deck of Cards

2 Icy Hot patches

2 pks Mints

1 bag Butterscotch discs

Kenneth Cole ‘Black’ (small)

Dude rag (black)

… and some other things I just cant remember right now.

Plus Aaron wrote him a lovely 1 page letter that I placed inside before I sealed it.  I had to fill out a customs form etc to send the box as Soldier Cowan is currently serving a 15 month stint in Iraq and only 5 months in to his tour.

He is the husband of Mandi & Father of 3 little girls:
Glenna (who has a heart condition), Alexis & Brooklyn

When he returns from Iraq he will return to Fort Hood Texas where he moved from Tennessee 2 years ago.

If over the next 10 months you find yourself compelled to write Michael a note of encouragement or thanks for his service you may send letters to:

SPC E4 Cowan, Michael
HHC 4th BDE, 1st CD
APO AE 09331

Remember if it were not for people like him we would be fighting over here instead.

Thank you for the freedom & safety you provide us Michael !!

As Aaron said to you in his letter:

“Though you may feel alone at times, always know the forces of liberty, democracy and freedom are higher powers that empower you. You are their messenger.”

Keep the course, watch your back, keep your head down, kick ass and come home !

Just a reminder of the man who was Obamas trusted advisor for over 20 years:

Also here are some statements of Fact from his association with terrorists :

They see that Obama has Arabic-Islamic first and middle names: Barack means “blessed” and Hussein means “beautiful.” His last name is Swahili, an East African language based on Arabic, Taheri writes. His sister is named Oumah, Arabic for “the community of the faithful;” his daughter Malia bears the name of a daughter of the noted Caliph Othman; and his father and stepfather were both Muslims.

Although Taheri did not note it, Obama was raised partially as a Muslim when he lived in Indonesia with his mother and stepfather. While there, he studied at two schools and was registered at both as a Muslim student.

As such he received Islamic religious instruction, studied the Koran, and prayed with other students. He did attend mosque, albeit infrequently, with his stepfather.

Obama’s religious upbringing after Indonesia is somewhat of a mystery until his late 20s. At that point, Obama says he converted to Christianity after meeting the Rev. Jeremiah Wright in Chicago. Click link above to see what his beliefs were then !!

Still, Obama has maintained strong support from American Muslims, including Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam movement. Farrakhan has endorsed Obama and has called him the “messiah.”

These factors have made Obama a big hit in the Arab world, where he has received wide praise, including:

•    The Syrian regime has indicated its preference for Obama. Buthaina Shaaban, an adviser to President Bashar al-Assad, has written: “The change suggested by Obama is essential not only for the U.S. but for the entire human family.”
•    Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi called Obama “a Muslim” and said: “All the people in the Arab and Muslim world and in Africa applauded this man. They welcome him and prayed for his success,” although Qaddafi also expressed criticism of Obama’s comments on the future of Jerusalem.
•    Hamas political adviser Ahmed Yousef said this year: “We like Mr. Obama and we hope that he will win the election.”
•    Hezbollah’s second in command, Sheik Naim al-Kassim, urged Americans to vote for Obama as a step toward peace with Islam, and pro-Hezbollah columnist Amal Saad-Ghorayeb said there is “no doubt Arabs should welcome an Obama presidency,” according to Taheri.
•    In Saudi Arabia, commentator Hussein Shobokshi wrote that an Obama presidency “would mark an important moral transformation in the superpower and is a healthy indicator of the long-awaited improvement in the international arena.”

Some columnists also have noted Obama’s close ties to several Palestinian radicals, including Columbia University Prof. Rashid Khalidi — former communications director for the Palestinian Liberation Organization — and another Palestinian political activist, the late Edward Said.

Are you willing to have terrorists welcome in to OUR Country?
Can you live with another 9/11??

WAKE UP PEOPLE!! VOTE SMART!!

Calling ALL Bakers !!

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Operation Baking Gals is a play off the WWII movement when women were called to work in their husbands jobs while they went off to War.

This movement was brought to my attention by my friend Denise who did this one time before on her own but is now Hostess of a Team. She is currently looking for people to join her in sending a care package to Soldier Michael Cowan.  He is currently serving a 15month tour in Iraq. He is only 5 months into this tour and has left behind his wife Mandi and 3 little girls one of which has a heart problem.

Denise is requesting that anyone who is able either to Bake or BUY a goody and send it to Soldier Michael Cowan in Iraq.

To join Denise’s Team  Click Here  and Enter in Search Bar “Team Multiples”   _or_
email us at Soldier@JAaronAnderson.com and we will forward your inquiry to Denise.

To make your own personal Donation  or Start your Own Baking Team to Support Our Troops Click Here

This is a great thing to do with small children or in your Church or Community Organizations.

Just think about this coming up on the Holiday Season how nice it would be for these Soldiers to get some Homemade Lovin’ from the good old USofA !!!

Provide Fresh Vegetables to People in Need

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

The only thing better for your heart than a diet rich in vegetables,

is Giving to Others!!

V8juice.com recognizes that for too many Americans, the possibility of a day without food is a constant reality!

35 MILLION people NATIONWIDE (yes here in America!) face the everyday challenge of wondering where their next meal is coming from.

V8 has teamed up with Feeding America to donate more than 30 million servings of Fresh Vegetables to local food banks throughout the country.  Many people may not realize that food banks mostly have only non-perishable foods therefore the poor are not getting the essential vitamins and minerals they need that only fresh vegetables can give!
This program will run for the next 6 months…..
How you can Help:

1)  Purchase V8 Juices and soups to show your support
By making V8 part of your daily routine you get more vegetables servings and help give more vegetable servings to those who need them most!!

2) Make a Donation
A $25.00 donation means 850 servings of vegetables,98 meals for a family of four,   19   weeks worth of food Per Person

3) Find A Food Bank in your area  & Volunteer or Drop off Food

4) Spread the word
Tag a Bag in your support and email your family and friends, get your church or community organization to pull together & donate to the local food bank or to Feeding America

I am not a fan of the Traditional V8 but I do love the V8 V-Fusion juices, they taste just like fruit juice but you get the added benefit of getting a serving of vegetables too in every serving!!  Aaron and my mom LOVE the traditional V8 so I am sure we will be stocking up on these products to show our support over the next 6 months.

Just another way you can use your Shopping Cart to make a difference in the lives of others and Pay it Forward!!

I implore you to StandUp2Cancer NOW whether you have been affected by it in your family or not.  We can beat this thing if we all would just pull together.

If every person in this country went without one $5.00 purchase and donated it to this cause imagine what strides could be made in finding a Cure to ALL Cancers!!

Here is some info to educate you on Neuroblastoma, who it targets and How

DIAGNOSIS or SIGNS of Neuroblastoma:
*   The First symptoms are often vague & may include Fatigue, Loss of Appetite & Fever
*   Later symptoms depend on the tumor location:

STAGES OF Neuroblastoma:

  • Stage 1: Localized tumor confined to the area of origin.
  • Stage 2A: Unilateral tumor with incomplete gross resection; identifiable ipsilateral and contralateral lymph node negative for tumor.
  • Stage 2B: Unilateral tumor with complete or incomplete gross resection; with ipsilateral lymph node positive for tumor; identifiable contralateral lymph node negative for tumor.
  • Stage 3: Tumor infiltrating across midline with or without regional lymph node involvement; or unilateral tumor with contralateral lymph node involvement; or midline tumor with bilateral lymph node involvement.
  • Stage 4: Dissemination of tumor to distant lymph nodes, bone marrow, bone, liver, or other organs except as defined by Stage 4S. ( this is Tuesday’s Stage)
  • Stage 4S: Age <1 year old with localized primary tumor as defined in Stage 1 or 2, with dissemination limited to liver, skin, or bone marrow (less than 10 percent of nucleated bone marrow cells are tumors).

Survivors of intermediate and high-risk treatment often experience hearing loss. Growth reduction, thyroid function disorders, learning difficulties, and greater risk of secondary cancers affect survivors of high-risk disease. An estimated two of three survivors of childhood cancer will ultimately develop at least one chronic and sometimes life-threatening health problem within 20 to 30 years after the cancer diagnosis.
