DD-WRT
Sunday, March 2nd, 2008Internet Wireless DD-WRT is an interesting extension for anyone’s G based Lan capabilities…
The DD-WRT adds new functionality to the Linksys such as added stability especially when using bittorrent (which uses lots of connections simultaneously which the stock firmware usually does not relinquish quickly thereby requiring the need to occasionally reset the router when using bittorrent heavily).
DD-WRT adds many more features such as converting the GL to a wireless bridge, enabling setting up QoS (Quality of Service) much more easily, adjusting the signal strength of the transmitter, plus more. My approach below ::
1) see if your integrated card on your laptops/workstations support Gigabit transfer…
probly not but nice to know - great to explore…2) N signal is a new “beta-tester” range extender platform (thats really it)
do you want to spend your money to beta-test others prodicuts? I didnt think so…3) So Ill stick with a “G”Level stable band and sup up my spec for it…!
4) hardware selection :
I have read studies that show NetGear is Superior in signal strength (by 15%) but Ive always found Linksys/Cisco to be best GUI and Ill sacrifice 15% potential strength for remote administrative ease…NETGEAR NIGHTMARE in fact one time I accidently locked myself out of a netgear corporate router and couldnt get back in… (no paperclip reset) so I simply bought a different device to keep moving forward…
5) consider what security frequency any wireless homesecurity items may be at your residence which may interfere with your survallence recording… (ive come up on this if I use 2.4 ghz signals)
