Begin OpenSSL

Monday, October 27th, 2008

OpenSSL is a library that provides cryptographic functionality to applications such as secure web servers.

For more information on U.S. encyption policies, refer to these web sites:

Cryptographic software needs a source of unpredictable data to work correctly. Many open source operating systems provide a “randomness device” (/dev/urandom or /dev/random) that serves this purpose. All OpenSSL versions try to use /dev/urandom by default

then try other good comands to know ::

$ openssl version
e.g. mine is OpenSSL 0.9.8b 04 May 2006

$ openssl ciphers -v

$ openssl speed

$ openssl s_time -connect remote.host:443
