Find out what your Genes mean
I saw this amazing item on TV today and felt the need to share it with everyone!
As some of you may know I dont have the best family history coming up as of lately. My sister passed from small cell neuroendocrine carinoma of the cervix at age 29 and my bilogical father died at age 56 of small cell brain cancer. Since that time I have been trying to find ways to see if I am at risk or my sisters children are at risk and no one in the entire Cancer Community is currently working on the genetics of Cancer except for Breast Cancer.
When I saw this today I immediately jumped on www.23andMe.com to see what it was all about.
First let me say the cost of the kit, processing and report are all inclusive,The Price is $399.
They will analyze your Genome and provide you with a Clinical Report and Research report that will list illnesses or traits you are preconditioned to have. Anything from Macular Degeneration, Type 2 Diabetes, Parkinsons Disease, Heart Attack, Lupus, Cancer, Neuroblastoma, Baldness,Alcoholism, Back Pain and much much more….
***PLUS***
This is the coolest part I think…
They provide you with Ancestry material provided by your DNA!! They can trace your maternal line by using the mitochondrial DNA and your paternal line via the Y chromosome. They identify the region or regions where the majority of your ancestors likely originated.
Their Ancestry tools compare your genetic information to that of people from around the globe, using a technology known as genotyping to read the DNA sequence at more than half a million distinct locations.
They currently provide four kinds of ancestry analysis. One, Maternal Ancestry, traces your maternal lineage back through time from you to your mother, her mother, and all the way to the mother of all humans. Paternal Ancestry does the same for your paternal lineage, tracing from you back to the father of all fathers. A third, Ancestry Painting, tells you where in the world each stretch along each of your 22 autosomal pairs is likely to have come from. The last, Global Similarity, assesses your relatedness to 10 regions that include more than 50 populations worldwide, as measured by the similarity of your DNA to people from those groups. With time, the number of populations they use for comparison purposes will grow the more people who start inquiring about their DNA thru testing.
There is no Blood Work required and you do not have to leave the comfort of your own home. You simply order their Kit and Collect your Spit and thats it!!
I dont know about all of you but this is definitely on my to do list this year without a doubt!
Will let you know how I make out when I do it….
Fingers crossed I dont have a major meltdown when the results come back
