Separation of Church and State
Separation of church and state: is a political and legal doctrine that government and religious institutions are to be kept separate and independent from each other.[1] The term most often refers to the combination of two principles: secularity of government and freedom of religious exercise.[2]
The phrase separation of church and state is generally traced to a letter written by Thomas Jefferson in 1802 to the Danbury Baptists, in which he referred to the First Amendment to the United States Constitution as creating a “wall of separation” between church and state. The phrase was then quoted by the United States Supreme Court first in 1878, and then in a series of cases starting in 1947. This led to increased popular and political discussion of the concept.
The concept has since been adopted in a number of countries, to varying degrees depending on the applicable legal structures and prevalent views toward the proper role of religion in society. A similar principle of laïcité has been applied in France and Turkey, while some socially secularized countries such as Norway have maintained constitutional recognition of an official state religion. The concept parallels various other international social and political ideas, including secularism, disestablishment, religious liberty, and religious pluralism.
That brings me to more Obama misquotes and crossing the legal boundaries set forth by Our Constitution and Amendments. Am I seriously the only one in this country that cant believe how much crap spews out of this mans mouth?? Does no one actually listen to the words that come out of his mouth. I truly believe everyone just jumps on the bandwagon and sits, smiles and claps on que!!!
Here is Obama and his statements from June 2006 to June 2008 about Church and State:
“Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools?” Obama said. “Would we go with James Dobson’s or Al Sharpton’s?”
Obama has cited in asking which Biblical passages should guide public policy* - chapters like Leviticus, which Obama said suggests slavery is OK and eating shellfish is an abomination, or Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, “a passage that is so radical that it’s doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application.” “Folks haven’t been reading their Bibles,” Obama said.
Joshua DuBois, director of religious affairs for Obama’s campaign, said “Obama is proud to have the support of millions of Americans of faith and looks forward to working across religious lines to bring our country together*.”
(*This is against the First amendment is it not??)
Lastly this was Obamas answer to Partial Birth Abortion legislation:
Obama is saying is that “I can’t seek to pass legislation that bans partial birth abortion because there are people who don’t see that as a moral issue.”
Enough said…..
I think I seriously need to stop reading, watching the news and listening to the radio because EVERY day Obama upsets me more with his arrogance, ignorance and reserve for entitlement!!
